Mountaineering Skills Series

Interested in learning essential mountaineering skills but don’t have the time to commit to a full-day of skills? We might live in Texas, but we can learn and practice these skills right in our own backyard! This is a four-part series that takes place over the course of a month.

In this course, you will learn:

  • gear for galcier travel and mountaineering

  • basic glaciology and route finding

  • knots and hitches necessary for glacier travel and crevasse rescue

  • organizing a rope team and practice walking on a rope

  • protection techniques on snow and ice

  • crevasse rescue systems and hauls

  • ascending a rope with various methods

  • rappelling into a crevasse

  • long term care for crevasse rescue patients
